Police
The history of law enforcement spans from the Middle Ages to the development of the world’s first modern police force in the nineteenth century and the subsequent modernisation of policing in the twentieth century.

This section showcases some of the remarkable people in policing, including the all-female police forces of World War I, and the specialist response roles addressing present-day threats to society.
