Gwenda Mary Hawkes

Gwenda Mary Hawkes (née Glubb, previously Janson and Stewart). Gwenda was a race car driver and an ambulance driver throughout World War One. Gwenda herself served during World War One as an ambulance driver, and as a result of her skill and endeavours on both the Russian Front and Romanian Front during 1914-1918, she was awarded both the Cross of St. George and the Cross of St. Stanislaus and received special mentions in despatches.
