Mary Wilkins

Role: Ambulance driver

Mary Wilkins was born in 1907 and worked in the ambulance service during World War Two. She had a relationship with Myrtle Solomon, an active pacifist. She was general secretary of the Peace Pledge Union (PPU), a British pacifist organisation, between 1965 and 1972, and Chair of the War Resisters International (WRI) between 1975 and 1986.

Mary was one of the first openly LGBTQ ambulance drivers, trailblazing for the period.
